"China Uighurs: Xinjiang city of Urumqi to ban Islamic veil"
Authors:Not Found Date Published: 11/12/14
Summary: The Islamic face veil worn by women is to going to be banned the capital of the Xinjiang region of China which is home to the Uighur Muslim minority. The influence of stricter forms of Islam from the Gulf of Pakistan has caused more women to begin covering their faces. The Chinese government views the Islamic face veil as an act of defiance and has blamed Uighur militants for recent rebellions.
Opinion: The Chinese government shouldn't have the right to ban veils from Uighur women because it is a religious expression. Men also should not be banned from boarding buses just because they have a beard. Citizens should have the right to express their style and beliefs through their clothing choice. The Chinese government should reconsider what is causing the attacks.
Cultural-Ties: Banning the veils in the Xinjiang region limits cultural expression for Uighur Muslim women. This is an example of how China is attempting to repress certain cultures and religions and promote little cultural variety. China's efforts could lead to the disappearance of certain cultures. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-30435691
